Nov 21, 2023 at 19:24 comment added Janus Bahs Jacquet Not an answer to either of your questions, but it’s worth noting that out of the four (as far as I know) languages currently spoken in Europe which have VSO as their base order, only one has a tendency towards SVO. Irish, Scottish and Manx Gaelic are all exclusively VSO, and SVO is only sorta-kinda possible in cleft sentences (if you ignore the initial copula and the relativiser). Welsh was originally the same, but cleft constructions have more or less become the default word order, so it does have SVO tendencies now.
