Pronunciation of تَطْوِيْل (as verbal noun), is it 'tat-weel', or rather 'ta-tweel' ? Notice the difference in syllable structure.

Does Arabic [otherwise] allow the consonant blend 'tw' at the beginning of syllables? Apr 1 at 18:15

My Arabic is rusty but you can read the Wikipedia section which says there's only ever one consonant at the start of a syllable.

  • Hmm… how to handle [w] here, unsyllabic vowel (thus vocoid) or consonant ? However, based on other source, I can confirm pronunciation is [tɐtˤ.ˈwiːl].

  • Notice the pitfall of the terminological difference between 'vowel' (articulatory-phonetic sense) and 'vowel' (phonological sense).
